Stroke or Cerebral Vascular Accident (CVA)

The brain can experience either clogging or bleeding of a blood vessel in the brain. When this happens, the brain tissue that is not getting blood dies. Depending on where this blockage or bleeding occurs in the brain, defines what the outcomes of the stroke will be. The deficits may be in ability to walk, talk, memory, swallowing or a combination of these symptoms. Even when identified early in the process of the stroke, often damage has occurred. However, the earlier the symptoms are identified and treated at the emergency department the less severe the outcome.
